New York, NY 10014
Village Voice's Description
Gourmet Garage has the high quality and selection you have come to expect from "gourmet" food stores, but it's all laid out in a particularly appealing and accessible manner. It opened as a wholesale distributor (to the best New York restaurants) in 1981. In 1992, the retail version was born. Extremely well-sourced, the goods here are not cheap. Wise foodies will gets the basics elsewhere, but head to Gourmet Garage for the ingredients that really count. See website for other locations.
Tips from foursquare
The fish and meats are fresh and delicious, but a bit expensive. Stop in for a quick to-go lunch, their sandwiches are awesome…as are the soups and baked goods.
