Description

Village Voice's Description

A spuntino is an Italian snack shop, but Frankies goes way beyond that, offering a wonderful wine list and limited series of main courses, too. Rather than looking to Tuscany or Rome for its model, the food pays homage to Brooklyn-Italian culinary history, focusing particularly on the fare of Apulia. Cavatelli-knurled homemade pasta nuggets-come bombarded with Faicco's spicy sausage and fresh sage; the same sausage also appears in a sandwich with broccoli rabe deposited on Sullivan Street Bakery's pizza bianca, and a similar intelligence goes into nearly everything on the menu.

The cavatelli pasta alone is worth the trip, but, then, so is the rest of the food and scene here, which is quintessentially Aging Hipster in the best possible way. [Eater 38 Member]

Go to Frankie's 457 for brunch. Get the French Toast - it's one of the best things ever created by man.

Order this exactly: Carafe of the house red wine is good - and cheap! Robiola and Taleggio cheese as an appetizer. Cavatelli with sausage and sage butter for an entree. mmmmmmmm
