Description

Village Voice's Description

This congenial neighborhood café peddles small wonders like proper seltzer, a strong Tom Collins, and delicious country-style paté. At lunch, the sandwiches are particularly good, including a stellar reconstruction of the New Orleans-style muffuletta, and a banh mi filled with fat slices of pork paté. Don't miss the bluefish rillettes, which sometimes sell out later in the evening. Other lovely things to eat include perfect oysters, deviled eggs with creamy, whipped centers that taste of good mustard and yolks, and the brick-red cashews fried with smoked paprika.

Tips from foursquare

  • Begin with a cool drink (made with the triple-filtered house seltzer) and an order of deviled eggs, dusted with black pepper instead of paprika, the creamy yolks piled high in Mister Softee swirls.

  • Time Out New York on 09/13/10

Try the hot apple toddy at this old-school cocktail hub – it boasts a shot of amaretto and a much creamier finish than most.

  • Village Voice on 11/11/11

Winner of Best Cocktail Bar in the Village Voice 2011 Best Of issue! The cocktails change seasonally with the menu, so come back often.

Great reasonable priced cocktails. Winner of Best of NYC Critic's choice for Best Foodie Adventure: Redhook, BK.

Sit at the bar, make friends with the bartender and drink/eat what they tell you.
