Village Voice's Description
Steve Forbes may have failed thus far at getting himself membership into the U.S. presidents' club, but the club has no better fan. The magazine magnate's collection of American presidential manuscripts and paraphernalia (that his father, Malcolm S. Forbes Sr., started in 1937 when he purchased a handwritten note by Abraham Lincoln) now comprises more than 4000 items, many of which are on display at the Forbes Magazine Galleries. At the moment, you can view the bullet-perforated speech that saved Teddy Roosevelt's life when he was shot in Milwaukee on October 14, 1912; a rambling autobiographical letter hand-penned by George Washington; Lincoln's report to his wife from the battlefield just days before his assassination; and some of JFK's doodles.
