Description

Village Voice's Description

The original Foragers City Grocer opened in DUMBO in 2005. The husband-and-wife owners also run a farm in Columbia County that provides much of the small shop’s foraged and grown produce, and eggs. Inside, Foragers City Table cooks with these same ingredients, preparing simple, kid-friendly, modern Asian food, developed by California chef Douglas Monsalud. Portions are generous, flavors lean to the sweet side, and dishes like the bright, fermented tea leaf salad and the glazed Berkshire short ribs are real crowd pleasers. Pick up dessert on your way out, from the shop’s well-stocked freezer aisle of artisanal ice creams.

Tips from foursquare

  • The New Yorker on 03/03/14

“It makes a strong case for eating locally, supported by the devilled Foragers Farm eggs, the deliciousness of which depends not on paprika or truffle oil or bacon bits but on the eggs themselves.”

  • Serious Eats on 09/23/13

Specialty market and sit-down restaurant that also sells food on the go. Offerings are uneven, but with some good finds, like the rotisserie chicken salad and house-made pastries.

  • Lydia D. on 09/15/13

    Get the waffles. AMAZEBALLS.

  • Roger E. on 07/07/12

Great food, terrific atmosphere. Try the pork ribs, the pork tenderloin and the butcher's steak. The curry chicken noodles are yummy as well.

  • Tasting Table on 06/06/12

Try the fermented tea-leaf salad, a Burmese specialty. Gently toss the components together for a texture- and flavor-filled trip that will leave your head spinning:
