Village Voice's Description
At Christmas time, you will not be uplifted to look into the glazed eyes of shoppers slumping up the escalator of this gigantic, mall-like aoff-pricea store. Here, shopping is work a there is a lot of crappola to wade through before laying your hands on something good. But if you hang in there, it can happen for you. It is an especially useful resource if you happen to be burdened with a constantly changing, hormonal monstrosity in the form of a teenaged girl a the ground level does a decent impersonation of Urban Outfitters with friendlier prices. For grown-ups, the best bets are often the less obvious designer items like shearling gloves for $20. Because, yeah, you could get a Versace purse for $150 instead of $450, but thatas because itas miniscule and heinous.
Tips from foursquare
Amazing overview of Union Square from the second floor.
Filene's has accomplished the impossible by placing a basement on the 2nd floor.
Steel yourself: the staff here can barely conceal their disgust for the customers. Rude, unfriendly, unprofessional and unhelpful.
