Village Voice's Description

Sired by a popular bistro with a glorious backyard on Union Avenue,
DuMont is as bare bones as an eatery can be. Diners sit along a narrow
counter on uncomfy stools, and it's easy to believe upon first
entering the premises that DuMont is primarily a beer bar with a nice
wine list. But the burgers are dense and juicy, the mac and cheese so
rich with cream that it might better be called a macaroni gratin, and
the french fries beyond reproach. Be sure to save room for sweets next
door at the DuMont Doughnuts counter, where you can score hot, tender,
fried-to-order beignets dusted with a variety of flavored sugars.

Tips from foursquare

Hands-down the best burger in NYC. I order mine with blue cheese and caramelized onions. The mac and cheese with bacon can easily feed a family of four or one very hungry chef. -Jacqueline Lombard, To

Grass-fed beef is only the first ingredient in these incredible, giant burgers - the brioche bun is a perfect complement, as are the rest of the fresh topping choices. Mini burgers are available, too.

In my opinion, DuMont has the best burger in NYC. It's not fancy or unique, but the patty is the perfect thickness, and they've always got nice fresh veggies to top it with.

With a fatty patty on brioche bun with Boston bibb lettuce, this place satisfies our red meat cravings. While it is primarily takeout, the full bar and apple crumble may make you stick around.

    Ate the macaroni and cheese.
