Village Voice's Description
You'll know you're at the right place when you see the giant line that sometimes spills out of the front door. Why all of the commotion? That would the decadent, inventive doughnuts made with seasonal glazes, fresh fruit and nuts roasted in-house. The menu changes with the seasons, but expect intriguing combinations like the square peanut butter and jelly doughnut, tres leches cake doughnut and the fudgy explosion known as the cake crumb-crusted Blackout. Don't think you're going to be able to pack down a dozen; all of the doughnuts are extremely dense, making one enough for a decent breakfast. Picky eaters will be glad to know Doughnut Plant uses no preservatives, no artificial flavors and no eggs. The small shop is all about grabbing a quick sweet treat on the go: ceramic doughnuts and favorable press clippings decorate the whole place, with metal racks of cooling doughnuts spread everywhere.âKeith Wagstaff

...because one bite into a Doughnut Plant doughnut and it's all about doughnuts!! I first discovered this place while watching a Bobby Flay Throwdown on the Food Network (Flay lost), and then headed right over during my next trip to NY. Doughnut making has been in owner Mark Israel's family forever - and he is doing the family proud with his unique creations. Tres leches, lavender, mango... homemade jelly inside all of the jelly-filled doughnuts... yum!! (God, I want one now. I have been trying to convince Mark to open an LA location for years.) Some flavors do sell out over the course of the morning/day - but that's all the more reason to go back again tomorrow!
