Description

Village Voice's Description

Dough is probably the world's greatest donut shop, though there are some contenders in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. The product is paradoxically light and cakey at the same time, and the range of flavors offered is wild. These don't work their way into the dough, but reside in the thick frosting that mantles each specimen. From a dozen or so available each day, our favorites so far have been dulce de leche (covered with caramel and nuts), hibiscus (with a bright red, sour frosting, and dried blossoms on top), and the plain glazed donut, which would stick to the ceiling if you threw it up there. Seating and excellent coffee make this a fine afternoon hang.

Tips from foursquare

  • Time Out New York on 10/04/11

Try the luminous blood-orange doughnut: stretchy, yeasty dough, slathered with a tart citrus glaze and crowned with a candied slice of the fruit. It’s one of our #100best dishes and drinks of 2011.

  • Food Network on 04/03/13

Forget plain glaze: These pastry wizards frost their giant, fluffy rounds with clever combinations like Passion Fruit with Cocoa Nibs, a fave of Food Network star Justin Warner. Via CityEats.com

  • Serious Eats on 04/12/13

Excellent yeast doughnuts at this tiny Bed-Stuy shop. Cafe au Lait and Blood Orange glazes are top-notch.

  • The Corcoran Group on 02/25/11

Ooey Gooey Goodness abounds at this upscale doughnut shop. Try a nutella filled, a dulce de leche or a hibiscus, paired with a hot cup of stumptown coffee.

The hibiscus doughnut rocked my world!
