Village Voice's Description

Catering to the pre-theater crowd, Dervish has endured the test of time in Midtown serving Mediterranean fare with a Turkish heart and a continental finish. Spiced lamb is served as a kebap and a brochette, and one also order a prime rib with potatoes and call it a night. However, Turkish flavors prevail, and the menu includes small plates like traditional red lentil soup and pine-nut stuffed vine leaves, as well as mains like baby eggplant stuffed with spiced meat or the fanciful Sultan's Delight: tender cubed lamb over an eggplant puree. The dining room is spacious and proper with a slight, vanilla type of opulence--white table cloth, dark wood, themed wall art--while the front bar room has a few booths and is a bit cozier. Dervish is casual enough but priced for a night out, and the capable, friendly service is streamlined to meet the Midtown hustle because, as emblazoned above the bar, "the show must go on." --Alex Spoto
