Village Voice's Description

Proof that Times Square and decent food are not strictly antithetical, this third project of the city's foremost French chef, Daniel Boulud, is more playful than the other two, but nearly as expensive. The opulent "burger" has already been extensively lauded, but our favorite dish is boeuf en gelée, a cocktail glass of cold beef chunks lubricated with natural jelly and topped with horseradish foam. Spoon it on the slices of toast provided. We also dug a pink melon soup given a salty twist with shreds of duck prosciutto, and especially a rhubarb-almond cake served with a restrained rhubarb ice cream. The menu changes seasonally, so go to www.danielnyc.com for available dishes.

Tips from foursquare

  • Bravo on 11/18/10

I am there almost every other week. My husband and I are huge fans of Daniel Boulud. -Dina Manzo, Real Housewives of NJ

  • The New Yorker on 08/08/12

This sleek bistro offers “haute-cuisine versions of home-cooking favorites.” Their theatrical and legendary DB Burger is “rich, well travelled, charred in the right places, and a little bit jaded.”

  • BLOUIN ARTINFO on 06/16/10

Famous for its DB Burger (which includes a helping of foie gras), this French bistro features large photographs of flowers by Christopher Beane, hand-picked by chef Daniel Boulud.

  • Food & Wine on 05/17/11

Apparently recession-proof, the famous short rib, truffle and foie gras–stuffed sirloin burger still remains on the menu.

  • Gilt City on 09/26/11

A must-order: the legendary db burger, a sirloin patty filled with braised short ribs and foie gras. Don't miss the croque monsieur with duck confit, figs and goat cheese, either.
