Cowgirl Hall of Fame
New York, NY 10014
Village Voice's Description
For more than two decades, Cowgirl has been a favorite for parents and students who go to the several elementary schools in the immediate neighborhood, but the kitschy, Old West theme of the restaurant is appealing to stoners and comfort-food aficionados. The nachos are profuse, the chicken-fried-steak excellent, the enchiladas smothered in cheese, and the margaritas--frozen or not, served in a Mason jar--are strong as hell. While the prices may seem a bit high (with entrees topping out at around $20), the portion size is so humongous, you won"t need any appetizers. Lots of interesting Western lore is embedded in the walls.
Tips from foursquare
Cowgirl's chicken fried steak is exemplary in every way-it's something of a culinary miracle. Underneath is a mound of mashed potatoes, which is the proper accompaniment
It's like they transported a Western Dad's basement from the late 70's… to NYC… on an Airstream. Hard to find a friendlier place to drink. — Ben T., Creative
The #1 dessert for kids is the Ice Cream Baked Potato--an ice cream sundae that looks like the real thing, with all the fixin’s. Powered by ParentsConnect.com
You haven’t lived until you’ve had the Frito Pie! We also enjoy the good strong drinks, the friendly service and the Chicken Fried Steak. One of our favorite themed restaurants in NYC.
The pulled pork sandwiches are cheap and delicious, and the margaritas are a tad pricey but strong.
