Village Voice's Description

This huge duplex space houses a sophisticated version of a cafeteria, with fetch-yer-own salads, sandwiches, room-temperature pastas, fried chicken, baked salmon, and the like. At prime lunchtime, it's downright insane to eat there, and the thing is, when fried chicken sits around, it gets soggy. That will always be true, unfortunately. Most items, even those that hold up texture-wise, are under-seasoned. However, the bakery part of City Bakery is quite good. Stop in for big, flat, sugary chocolate chip cookies or a miniature, seasonally appropriate tart or pie. If you really like yourself, you'll get a pain chocolat.

I love the setting in here with the lighting and massive space. Sit up above, have a cookie and contemplate your life while people watching. -Yigit Pura, Top Chef Just Desserts

Must try: the incredibly rich hot chocolate with fat, house-made marshmallows and the moist “melted” chocolate-chip cookies.

  • The Corcoran Group on 12/14/10

Dunk a delicious chocolate chip cookie into the pure, thick and smooth, liquefied chocolate.
