Village Voice's Description

Opened in 2009 to replace the adjacent Shea Stadium—and still referred to as Shea by those protesting the corporate naming rights—Citi Field is the home of the New York Mets. It's located in Flushing Meadows—Corona Park Queens, near all the World's Fair relics. Visit Big Shea while you can as the Mets will be moving next door to Citi Field to start the 2009 season. Unless you are John Rocker take the 7 train and enjoy the 20 minute ride from Grand Central Station through Queens right to Shea Stadium. Tips from foursquare

  • HISTORY on 03/18/13

Opened in 2009, Citi Field is the only Major League ballpark to feature orange foul poles instead of the standard yellow. The home of the Mets was named host of the 2013 All-Star Game.

While everyone makes a beeline for Shake Shack, outsmart the crowd and head to Box Frites. They’ll serve you faster than a Doc Gooden heater, and you’ll have a smorgasbord of dipping sauces. Amazin’!

  • ESPN on 07/15/13

When it opened, Citi was a wasteland for home runs. Not anymore. After the park produced the third-fewest homers in the NL in 2011, Mets officials reduced the in-play surface area by 2% in 2012.

  • Pepsi on 07/01/11

This newly renovated stadium is home to the Mets. Their food selection is some of the best in the nation. Check out the NY favorite Shake Shack or Blue Smoke BBQ.

  • Sports Authority on 11/08/10

Everyone rushes to the Shake Shack line when they get to Citi Field, so do yourself a favor and try Blue Smoke. Same location, shorter lines and a great pulled pork sandwich!
