Village Voice's Description

The look is pretty much textbook French bistro: the marble-topped tables, the pressed-tin ceiling, the antique mirrors and posters of French crooners hanging on the brick walls. Bistro classics such as steak frites and duck confit are listed on the menu next to more contemporary fare like maple-soy-glazed duck breast and salmon served with spinach and mushrooms in a ginger broth. Not feeling too hungry? Everything on the menu is available in a smaller size for about half-price. Early birds can take advantage of the prix fixe menu from 5:30pm to 7pm, three courses for $19.95. The small French wine list is complemented by a few European beers on tap, digestifs and specialty cocktails. Brunch dishes have more of a Mediterranean vibe including the Tunisian eggs (baked eggs, spicy tomato, feta and capers) and a spinach and chickpea omelet, served with coffee or tea for just under $10.—Keith Wagstaff

    I have been going to casimir for the past 12 years! It is my little niche of real new yorkers! I always meet local artists (very rare those days, had all to move to bushwick), famous (ben harper can stop by when he is in ny) or not, there is this special atmosphere that made this little bistro, my favorite hang out.

    They split their menu into full plates and half plates, so you can order a little of everything. Go for the escargot, mussels and filet (cause they got no bearnaise sauce for that strip steak!)
