Carteles - CLOSED
New York, NY 10009
Village Voice's Description
This sunny Cuban sandwich and coffee bar is the first outpost in what will be Cienfuegos, a three-part enterprise offering a rum bar upstairs, a sit-down Cuban restaurant downstairs, with Carteles tucked to one side. The marquee Cubano is judiciously constructed--thin layers of roast pork, ham, provolone, pickles and garlicky yellow mustard, pressed into crisp submission. You get a bit of each component in every mouthful, including the tart pickles. Then there's the Cubano cristo, an innovative drunk-food creation. It's a take on a media noche, basically a pork sandwich on egg bread--but here, it's the Cubano dipped in egg and fried.
Tips from foursquare
The frozen daiquiris are the business, if you like rum based drinks. Great for those summer nights
Get the Anchor Punch... taste of Ginger!
the ropa vieja sloppy joe is one of the most awesome sandwiches I've ever had
Do brunch on the weekend. Only place I know where you can get cafe cubano, and sancocho.
Ghetto blaster playing Johnny Cash... And that's why I love it here
