Brooklyn Kolache Co.

Village Voice's Description
When Lone Star State expatriate Autumn Stanford decided to bring the Tex-Czech sweet rolls called kolaches to Brooklyn, she couldn’t leave well enough alone. The result is an improved and expanded pastry: the crust is puffier and more flaky, the buttery streusel toppings sweeter and more profuse. The emphasis has partly switched away from the fruit fillings, so that now savory stuffings have achieved parity. From among the former, the apricot kolache is particularly good, oozing minced fruit and tart enough to make you pucker. From the savory, a jalapeno-cheese pork sausage left us wanting one every day. Dig the rear room and backyard, where you can wi-fi while munching.

I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood during my first relaxing day after moving to Brooklyn and realized that I was near Brooklyn Kolache Co. I'd seen a great video about one week prior that highlighted what they were doing there and I definitely wanted to get my first taste of a kolache soon. I walked in and really dug the atmosphere of the place. There's a nice room in back with plenty of tables & chairs (which is where I enjoyed my strawberry kolache and coffee). I didn't exactly know what to expect with a kolache and was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be going back soon to try the savory versions! Bring your laptop/ipad/etc too- they have free WIFI!

This place nails it. WiFi password: kolaches. Kolaches themselves: out of control. Outlets: above each table in the backroom inside lighting fixtures. Payment: LevelUp or Square. AMEN. Texas forever.
