Village Voice's Description

Nolita is ripe with picturesque Italian joints, but few do the Panini so well as postage-stamp-sized Bread. Bar stools and a few tables fill up quickly as the smell of melting cheese wafts from the kitchen. Ciabatta rolls and baguettes are walked over from nearby Balthazar to be the bricks for a dozen or so different Panini combinations: Sicilian sardines with tomato and Thai pepper mayonnaise smothered between a baguette, and aged Genoa salami with a coating of olive tapenade and Taleggio on fluffy ciabiatta. Sandwiches are served with a small salad, perhaps to relieve some carb-induced guilt. The menu offers other full-sized salads, pastas, classic Italian dishes like eggplant parmigiana, and small dishes like French fries, a gooey zucchini souffle and rich Brie tartines. But stick to the paninis. It's what Bread does best. --Jessica Goodman

I like to come here for dinner and split a salad (the shrimp salad is so good!) and a bread (sandwich- i like the fontina) and a bottle of wine for dinner!

  • Spencer F. on 09/18/09

Get the $10 lunch special: soup and a 1/2 sandwich (w/ a green salad).

  • Charles B. on 05/07/12

the Tomato soup is bananas. $11 lunch special half sammy and soup is one of the best sit down specials in the hood.

  • Eric F. on 10/17/12

Get the lunch special; soup and half sandwich. Try the tomato soup and prosciutto de Parma for a delicious combo!

  • The Corcoran Group on 08/02/11

Romantically lit and ideal for a special dining experience. You must have one of their delicious Panini’s. We recommend the Prosciutto di Parma Panini or the Handmade Mozzarella Panini.

  • Where to Get: Souffle

Stuffy, fussy, and difficult to make are all things that come to mind when soufflé is mentioned. However, the puffy dessert is not much more... More on Bread »
