Village Voice's Description

It takes its name from the Bowery, but there is nothing gritty or edgy about this place. Why, it's positively tourist-friendly, with its high ceilings, smooth lacquered surfaces and tall comfy leather booths; it's even partly owned by Bruce Willis. Only black-and-white photos of the Bowery in the early 20th Century give a clue to the area's past, that's if you can peel your eyes away from the flat-screen TV. Every one of its 20 or so wines are available by the glass. The three house wines are a nice affordable option, although everything is reasonably priced. Expect a selection of unique, international wines including some great sparkling varieties, many available in tasting flights of three. The menu is packed with crowd pleasers such as thin-crust pizzas, pastas like fettucine alfredo and penne ala vodka, Panini, meatballs and more. Get a little live music with your wine when musicians come in to play jazz every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7pm.—Keith Wagstaff

Go outside, turn left, walk deliberately to Bowery, turn around, lower your eyes, watch the sidewalk, walk back the way you came. Shout the Eliot you find written there before returning to your wine.
