Description

Village Voice's Description

Bob Holman, the man who helped popularize slam poetry in the city, founded the Bowery Poetry Club, so you can feel quite confident that the acts inside aren't just a bunch of wannabe beatniks. Spoken-word poets, self-conscious rappers, amplified rockers, and tawdry burlesque acts frequent the stage in the back, while arty regulars hang out in the club's macabre, red-chandelier-equipped cafe. It also has wi-fi.

Great poetry readings, and concerts by up and coming and already highly established artists.

always a fun night at BPC, with live music and other performances

Where else could you see, Amira Baraka backed by a live jazz quartet one night and a mega J Rock concert marathon the next? The Bowery Poetry Club houses some of the most diverse forms of entertainment in NYC, which only makes sense seeing that the ever eccentric and eclectic Bob Holman owns the joint. Plus the food served there isn't half bad.

Home not only to amazing spoken word performances, but sexy Burlesque and hilarious Bingo. The real poetry is in the men’s room – try not to add you own.

A bastion of creativity on the Bowery. If you can't attend a show, hit up their website where they stream readings and such live.
