Description

Village Voice's Description

The Bowery Ballroom is generally regarded as the city's best music venue. It has three floors, three bars, an intimate 550-person capacity, balconies for the mosh-pit-adverse, and status as the most popular destination for rising indie-rockers. It's also the place where "special guests" (such as David Byrne!) drop by, and more established acts (such as Nine Inch Nails!) treat their fans to "secret" shows. While the Ballroom now has a Brooklyn clone (the Music Hall of Williamsburg) with sleeker finishes, swankier bars, and better couches, the original club's homey charm is something that can't be replicated.

Caught them during CMJ and I'm excited to see them again at Bowery Ballroom- one of my favorite new bands!

Been here a few times. The sound is incredible and there isn't a bad place to watch the show in the entire place! Tickets often sell out for the big shows so plan ahead.

Tips from foursquare

  • Fans can be feral (even though they’ll never dance). If you step out for a smoke, leave plenty of time to get back anywhere near the front.

The club serves as the namesake of Joan Baez's Bowery Songs album, recorded live at a concert at the Bowery Ballroom on November 6, 2004.

Angle for a balcony view -- it's the best place to view a concert.

Go to the Bowery Ballroom to see a band, and move towards stage right, where it is less crowded. Too many people get stuck on one side of the room.
