Village Voice's Description

Dim lighting, a deep whiskey list, and a tucked-away cigar cave make Beekman Bar and Books a hidden treasure in Sutton Place. The back opens up into Max's Tobacco Shop where cigar aficionados can shop or light up in leather or zebra-printed chairs. Non-smokers can enjoy the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in the main whiskey bar, and snack on cheese and charcuterie platter or a plate of finger sandwiches. The prices are steep, but tasting flights are perfect for the connoisseur. --Jessica Goodman

Winner of Best Whiskey Bar in the Village Voice 2011 Best Of issue! Get a flight, and hang in the backroom cigar bar!

  • The Corcoran Group on 03/18/11

A quiet and classy bar with an amazing selection of Scotch. Enjoy your drink while watching James Bond movies, and intermittently sneak off to the cigar room.

  • Jennifer on 06/16/10

This place is known for the Scotch selection, but try the cocktails. They'll knock your socks off.

  • Nathalie A. on 09/19/13

Every time I come in here for a cocktail, it is d-e-a-d. Bring a book, bring your laptop, heck, bring your dog, bc no one is here to complain.

  • Mark G. on 08/30/11

Bring a translator - barman's English was incomprehensible.
