Beard Papa Sweets Cafe
New York, NY 10024
Village Voice's Description
Beard Papa Sweets Cafe first opened in Osaka, Japan. It's best to ignore the creepy logo -- a beanie-wearing man with a white beard and black pipe -- and enjoy the Japanese-style cream puffs. They come stuffed with dozens of flavors like peach yogurt, green tea honey, apple cinnamon, and chocolate banana, and are baked fresh every half hour. The Upper West Side bakery serves Paris Brest, a French take on donuts filled with custard, and Mud coffee to wash the sugar down. Just try not to mind the giant cardboard cut-out of Beard Papa that stares at you while you snack. --Jessica Goodman
Tips from foursquare
The crispy pastry shell alone of these cream puffs is enough to keep you coming back for more. No need to play it safe here, go for the green tea, éclair, or dulce de leche flavors.
Icy drinks and choux pastry puffs filled to order with your choice of flavored cream.
Throw your diet out the window and have a cream puff…or five! It’s surprising how good they are. Try the Original, the Strawberry or the Pumpkin!
Frozen mango cream puff is good! They also serve Mud Coffee here!
My first cream puff ever! Yum!
