Village Voice's Description

The Beacon, an old vaudeville theater that dates back to 1928, presents performances that range from productions of A Christmas Story

to the annual two-week residency of the Allman Brothers in March. Though tastes run in an adult contemporary veinaRyan Adams, Sting, and Tori Amos have all played hereathe theater is the only major spot on the Upper West Side for big-name live music and it may be one of the few venues in the city to be registered as a national historic landmark.

They played an amazing set here last year, I can only imagine what the new tour has in store this year. The best venue in NYC to see a concert! Recently restored; they don't build 'em this way anymore. A true treasure. Also a great venue to hear speakers like the Dalai Lama of Thich Nhat Hanh!

Legendary 'older sister' to Radio City. Flawless acoustics. From Opera to rock concerts. Since 1989 The Allman Brothers hold an annual rite of spring series "The Beacon Run." here every year.

  • Rolling Stone on 01/13/11

The Beacon began as a movie palace in 1929, and has since hosted artists from the Rolling Stones to Bob Dylan. The Allman Brothers' regular stints here were immortalized on "Peakin' At The Beacon."

  • The Corcoran Group on 04/17/10

One of the best places in the city to catch a live performance. Fantastic old-time, authentic New York venue to see a band, with what feels like the original, upholstered seating.
