Village Voice's Description

An awesome wine list greets you at this Mario Batali-style modern Italian spot, and many of the best bottles are also available in quartino (one-third bottle) portions. By sharing courses, one may easily pursue the three-course meal that is standard in Italy, and our recommendations are as follows: appetizer;truffled polenta with a runny egg on top; primo;chicken liver ravioli in a dark fragrant sauce; secondo;lamb cutlet served Milanese-style, breaded and fried with an arugula salad heaped on top. As a general rule, pastas trump the other two courses. The interior is exactly what you'd expect on Avenue B.

The beet-gorgonzola ravioli (see pic) will be among the best ravioli you will eat anywhere, and the pastas and seasonal meat... More >>

Go to Barbone (13th and B?) and order up off the 5-course tasting menu ($35!). Sit in the garden if you can.

One of NYC’s best-kept secrets. Much more appropriate for Cesare’s forbidden love than Juan’s weekly woman.

5-course homemade pasta tasting menu for $35 = unbelievable! Portions are big and everything I've ever had here has been amazing. Ask for a table in the outdoor area in the spring/summer.

Barbone is best described as italian soul cooking
