Village Voice's Description
For a look at how the other half lives-the wealthy half, that is-check out this off-price offshoot of Masa. While the parent's prix fixe starts at an astonishing $300 per person, at Bar Masa you can enjoy the same quality seafood and the same "jazzy sushi"-rice pressed into a box with oddball toppings like mozzarella, prosciutto, and shiso leaves-for about one-fifth the tab. The lobster risotto is our favorite entrée, containing massive quantities of truffle and crustacean; memorable bowls of soba or udon are even cheaper, in an interior that resembles an Egyptian tomb.
Tips from foursquare
“Better sushi than in Tokyo…pricy, but good.” – Anthony Bourdain.
Sit at the counter of The Master
Expensive but is most amazing gastronomic experience in New York. Recomendado a que vengan si están en La Gran Manzana.
Minimal decor showcases the bright flavors and impeccable quality of Chef Takayama's sushi offerings. Be warned, the space is small; only 16 seats at tables, plus 10 more at the bar to watch him work.
Surrender your wallet to Bar Masa and order your favorites from the $400 prix-fixe omakase a la carte. Favorites include duck tacos, torchon of Kobe beef with foie gras and scallop-shrimp ceviche.
