Formerly the home of Alice Austenaone of the first female photographers in the U.S.athis old mansion was recently bought and carefully restored by the city. The house is a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry. Suggested donation: $2.
The house is open all year (except January, February and major holidays).

Alice Austen was not your typical Victorian woman. She traveled through NYC taking street photos, was Staten Island’s first female car owner, and lived with another woman for more then fifty years.
This Victorian Gothic cottage was home to photographer and noted badass Alice Austen, who was known for her gritty street photography—and for being the first woman on Staten Island to own a car.
