Village Voice's Description
This handsome restaurant focuses on the Greek community of Istanbul, turning out food that's Mediterranean fusion, par excellence, with more conventional Greek food (emphasizing meat over fish) thrown in for good measure. The rooster stew is superlative, a tough bird turned tender in savory tomato sauce, with pasta squares on top like shingles on a roof. For enthusiasts of ancient food, there's trahana, a soup made with a powder of fermented grain and yogurt that goes back to the ancient Greeks, while fried-food lovers will be amazed by kolokythokeftedes, from the island of Mykonos, which turn masses of feta and zucchini into bouncy, lighter-than-air fritters.
Tips from foursquare
Excellent, very fresh salads, especiall 'The Farmer'. Lousy service, one waitress isn't enough for a packed Friday night dining room, so it may be the management's poor scheduling.
Taste: Sardeles(seasonal, imported sardines grilled or cooked in rosemary sauce), Midia Dolma (mussles with rice and pine nuts)
