Description

New York Deli News is Denver's answer to the famed Carnegie Deli of Manhattan, with a few important differences. Although the plates are substantial, typically heaped with corned beef, pastrami and brisket imported from New York, they're not huge -- and neither is the bill. More significant, perhaps, the servers are friendly and patient, giving diners a chance to peruse the large menu. Staples include matzoh ball soup and potato-based classics, including knishes and pancakes, alongside such house specialties as the French dip sandwich and French toast. Always bustling, this deli is an experience as much as a meal.

  • 2001 | Best Black-and-White Cookies

A specialty of New York delis, black-and-white cookies got some extra attention a few years ago when they were featured on an episode of Seinfeld ("Look to the cookie!" Jerry shouted). But these unusual delights have long been a culinary curiosity. Also known as half-moons, the cookies are made using the basics: flour, butter, sugar, eggs, milk, baking powder, salt, and a touch of vanilla and lemon. Then they're covered with sweet frosting, chocolate on one side and vanilla on the other --... More »

The New York Deli News is housed in a classic California Coffee Shop structure, with windows reaching boldly for the early-1960s sky's-the-limit sky. Nevertheless, it's the kind of restaurant that seems to have been around forever. I know for a fa... More »

The New York Deli News is by far my favorite place to go for brunchner (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). In the morning, don't miss their breakfast burritos. They honestly are the best in Denver. For lunch, bring a friend and share a cobb salad platter. This salad can easily feed two, if not eight! If salad is not your thing, go for one of their layered sandwiches. Wrap-up the day right with a BBQ brisket sandwich for dinner. They also have ridiculously inexpensive early bird specials. Don't forget the infamous black-and-white cookie for dessert!
