Throw a bottle of Jameson in the air and you're bound to hit an Irish bar in this town. But the further south you go in the city, the harder they are to come by. Nellie Glenns keeps the dream alive; the bar is festooned with white-and-green Christmas lights, and every wall decoration has some mention of the Emerald Isle. There's even a handy-dandy digital countdown to Saint Patrick's Day. Nellie Glenns is open 'til three, but the bartenders reserve the right to kick you out at 2:15 if they feel like it. After a few of their double-sized shots, we're inclined to nod blearily in agreement with the sign: "God created liquor to keep the Irish from conquering the world." The menu features standard bar fare, including pretzel bites served with spicy cheese, nachos, salads and burgers. Nellie Glenns also offers pizza and sandwiches, such as the Gravois: grilled chicken with Swiss, bacon, onions, lettuce and tomato.
