Description

This evolved Uzbeki Cafe Nargis Cafe in Homecrest is relatively unique, in that it caters to small parties, rather than large banquets, and the Russian food is all the better for it. Generous and cheap kebabs fly still smoking from the charcoal-stoked grill. The best are lamb rib, lulya kebab (ground beef laced with onions), sea bass, and marinated baby chicken. All come strewn with raw onions, and you should get an order of "spiced french fries" to go with. Rather surprisingly, elaborate salads are a co-specialty of Nargis, though some are mainly a morass of meat and mayonnaise. Salad Tashkent is one such, and surprisingly delicious. Soups are rather meh, but the individual plates of the rice pilaf called plov and pumpkin-stuffed triangular pastries known as samsa are not to be missed.
