Chef/partner Sam Gorenstein brings in whole fish from local waters and prepares them on the premises. That's really what makes the ceviche and other items here better than those at most other seafood places. Whether you select shrimp, octopus, or the local fish du jour, and whether you go medium ($11.95) or large ($14.95), and whether you choose traditional (lime, tomato, red onion, avocado, cilantro, and jalapeƱo) or aji amarillo (citrus juices, mint, and the piquant peppers), the ceviche is a winner. Also terrific is the bulky "Caribbean-style" burrito -- a large flour tortilla tightly wrapped around grilled seafood of your choice with luscious coconut-jasmine rice, corn, cilantro, strands of pickled red onion, tomato, a bit of queso fresco, and a smooth dab of Mexican crema ($9.95). Charred octopus tacos hit the spot too, as does a tasty and spicy mango slaw salad. Ceviche is the new sushi -- to the rest of the country, that is. When sushi first appeared in Miami, it was probably considered the new ceviche, thanks to our vibrant Latin American community, which long ago introduced the Magic City to this refreshing macerated seafood specialty. It certainly isn't anything new to Sam Gorenstein, who fondly remembers the cevicherias of his native Colombia. That's what led him, along with partner Roger Duarte (of George Stone Crab), to open My Ceviche... More »
