Description

Yes, My Brother's Bar has a fascinating history: oldest still-operating bar in Denver, Neal Cassady hangout, yadda yadda, etc. Yes, in its current incarnation it's a beloved and anachronistic neighborhood institution that plays classical music, caters to a demographically mixed crowd of crusty old-timers, serious drinkers, families, artists and transplants, and from its stubby galley kitchen offers a strange diner-slash-taproom-cum-lunchwagon menu. But when a burger is this good - and the kitchen cooks 'em up until 1 a.m. - you just don't need anything more.

  • 2012 | Best After-Midnight Menu

We may not be totally sober if we're seeking out a meal after midnight, but we're often coherent enough to know that we don't want any old slice of pizza or a foil-wrapped burrito. That's why we often find ourselves at My Brother's Bar in the wee hours. This iconic Denver bar, which for the last forty years has occupied an address that has held a saloon since the 1880s, serves a massive menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads and all manner of fried accoutrements until just before 2 a.m. last... • 2011 | Best Brother's Bar

Accept no substitute: My Brother's Bar is the real thing. An eclectic crowd haunts the tables and bar here, and it's a crowd that represents a cross-section of this city's population. Families and downtown professionals eat burgers and fries on the back patio during the day; Highland neighbors stop in for a tap Tetley's pretty much anytime; and industry folks come in after their restaurants close, mingling with the old-time regulars, crusty waitstaff, quirky bartenders and unlucky kitchen... • 2009 | Best Burger With a Side of Classical Music

My Brother's Bar has a million things going for it -- from a building that's held a bar since the 1880s to the classical music piped through the place to the friendly crowd of regulars to the eclectic menu cooked up out of the tiny chuckwagon kitchen -- but the most important thing is the burger. My Brother's not only makes one wicked, huge, messy and (by request) multiply-topped burger, but it serves said champion burger in a unique conveyance: a plastic, burger-specific condiment... More »

  • 2008 | Best Bar Burger

Although Bud's Bar still makes the area's best burger, the burger at My Brother's Bar comes very close -- and it's flavored by decades of tradition, since this address has been a bar longer than any other location in Denver, back to at least 1880. But unlike a Bud's burger, which we can take outside and eat while sitting on the hood of a car with no noticeable diminution in its essential excellence, a burger at My Brother's should be eaten at the bar, where you have handy access to both... • 2003 | Best Patio -- Urban

It's spring, and in Denver, that means it's time to enjoy the crisp, fresh air of an outdoor patio and lots of crisp, fresh beverages. So head straight for My Brother's Bar, but don't be lulled into sitting in the dark, cozy confines of one of the bar's dining nooks. Continue on to the patio out back -- the perfect secluded enclave for everything from first dates to family dinners to hanging out with friends. With moonlight and mountains peeking through the trees -- and the I-25 traffic... More »

  • 2000 | Best old bar

Not only is this a bar where everyone knows your name, but the bar itself is so secure in its identity that it doesn't bother to announce its name outside. You don't need a sign to find your way to My Brother's Bar, however; anyone and everyone who appreciates a good drink -- with or without good company -- knows the way there. The brother is Jim Karagas, who's presided over this spot for almost three decades; his late brother, Angelo, used to run the Wazee Lounge and Supper Club eight... More »

I LOVE MBB! I've been eating here for years and nothing has changed. Great burgers, great rings, Girl Scout cookies, this place has it all. I always get the "Johnny Burger" "Ralphie Style" (bison) and it's perfection on a bun. They serve food until 1am and the kitchen staff always seem to be cleaning something. I love a clean kitchen.
