Owned by three siblings from Mexico City who have been operating restaurants by the same name in Chicago for 40 years, Mr. Taco opened in mid-2010 on a stretch of Collins Avenue where you can also find Argentine, Colombian, Uruguayan, and Brazilian food. The restaurant has the look and feel of a fast-food joint; customers order at the counter and get their food delivered to one of the few tables. The menu features the usual suspects: tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, quesadillas, tortas, and burritos with fillings including beef, chicken, pork, chorizo, and tongue. The most expensive dishes are the tortas ($6.25) and the combination plates, which top out at $10. Co-owner Blanca Saldierna swears by the steak quesadilla ($2.50) and says the tongue tacos ($2.50) are popular. Guacamole ($4), prepared to order, is a nice touch. Keep in mind there's a $7 minimum for credit card purchases.
