Description

The grillmasters at Mo's grind their corn-fed Angus beef daily and broil their 7-ounce patties to order over volcanic rock, resulting in burgers that are at once juicy, smoky, and satisfying on every level. Order yours au naturel or augment it with bacon, mushrooms, blue cheese, Gruyère, chili con carne, or barbecue sauce. The garlicky fries are crisp, skinny, and mildly greasy (in a good way), and the thick 20-ounce fresh fruit shakes are sublime. The tiny diner-esque North Beach location features lots of retro-kitsch Elvis and Marilyn decor and serves breakfast as well; the Yerba Buena Gardens outpost is as shiny, curvy, and colorful as the adjacent merry-go-round. Both venues also serve comfort food like meatloaf, pork chops, eggplant parmigiana, and apple pie.

Mo's excels in the area of the turkey burger, a lighter variation on the cowish classic. Given their leaner nature, turkey burgers tend to the dry and perfunctory, but Mo's are juicy and touched with just enough herb and spice to bring out the meat's subtle flavor.
