Description

Although this itty-bitty Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese/Thai joint looks unassuming from the outside, it really packs in the appreciative customers. That's because Moongate's Asian non-fusion is far better than most of Denver's Far East offerings, and Moongate's kitchen isn't afraid to challenge American appetites.

  • 2004 | Best Use of Soy on a Dinner Menu

The best way to treat the humble soybean is to leave it pretty much alone, and that's just what Moongate Asian Grill does with its edamame. The pods are steamed, lightly salted, then served hot, sans fuss. You can eat a whole bowl of these addictive little buggers -- nutty in flavor and green as nuclear beer nuts -- and know that you're filling up with one of nature's most perfect foods, packed with all those vitamins, nutrients, oils and good stuff that's so sadly lacking in our drive-thru,... • 2003 | Best Combo Asian

The tiny, almost unbelievably cute Moongate Asian Grill restaurant offers a culinary exploration of Asian foods. Even a package tour of the Pacific wouldn't let you try this many cuisines -- and Moongate saves you not just the time and expense, but also the malaria shots required for such a venture. Where else can you have chicken satay and panang curry, Vietnamese egg rolls and rice bowls, tempura and udon, broccoli beef and kung pao chicken -- all under one roof More important, where will... • 2002 | Best Sesame Chicken

Fly us to the Moongate, one of this town's best-kept secrets. The tiny, six-table eatery in a tiny, nondescript strip mall cooks up quality Asian fare with big flavors -- and it's equally adept with the most popular dishes from each of the major cuisines in that region. While the tempura (Japanese), chicken satay (Indonesia) and egg rolls (Vietnamese) are all fine, the sesame chicken really soars. For this quintessential version of the quintessential Chinese dish, sizable chunks of chicken... More »

One of the great, guilty pleasures of a critic's gig is having to wait for a table. Because I work anonymously, I don't get to waltz into any room I choose and demand the best table in the house and untold adulation. No, I have to wait out in the ... More »

One more bean sprout, Jay, and I swear to God, I'm gonna shank someone." I laughed. Not out loud, though, because Glen's threats aren't always idle. "You gotta trust me," I told him. "You'll like the place. And it's better than the bird food you'... More »

    Hole in One

    | Thu, June 28, 2001

Diners who see their plates as half empty rarely venture into a hole-in-the-wall eatery to discover what it might offer. Those of us with a more optimistic bent, however, regard every tiny, off-the-beaten-track spot as a potential pearl. One such... More »

So good and the fastest delivery in town. Love the noodle bowls and the Kung Pao.
