If you visit Monica's Nueva Cocina, chances are you'll meet the famous Monica Green. The 57-year-old restaurateur works the room like a pro, greeting nearly every customer. Oak Lawn needed a Mexican restaurant with good food that doesn't break the bank and in many ways Monica's delivers. While some fusion dishes dismay, Tex-Mex and Mexican plates deliver wins far more than they disappoint. Try the chili con carne enchiladas and be ruined for chain-restaurant versions forever. The Mexican lasagna is satisfying and tacos are good across the board, partly because of the hand-made tortillas the kitchen employs.
