Friendly both to crowds of tourists and lingering locals, this popular West Village cupcake bakery features board games (Jenga, Trivial Pursuit, and others), free wifi, good coffee, and weathered porch swings that beg lounging in. In addition to classic cupcake choices like chocolate, carrot, and banana, Molly’s offers flavors from Peach Cobbler to Mint Velvet, including a few vegan options, all of which can be customized (think sprinkles) at the condiment bar. Molly’s also serves homemade ice cream, bars, cookies, pies, and even chocolate-covered strawberries and eclairs. Because it’s open late on weekends and caters to an all-ages crowd, Molly’s sometimes fills at night with NYU students who want to get out of their dorm rooms without using the fake ID they might not have. The crowding can quickly make the quiet spot feel loud and overwhelming, so if you’re in for a book and a pastry, head home when the streetlights go on. --Diana Clarke

The extensive roster offers flavors ranging from Nutella-peanut butter to blueberry cheesecake to classic vanilla, plus Molly's even... More »
