Description

Everybody loves a good slice of pie, and this homey little cooperative not only fills its impeccably buttery crusts adroitly and delectably, it also fills them with organic produce raised at local family-owned farms and employs at-risk urban youth to boot. Happily, the pies are as admirable as the venue's accomplishments, particularly the summer nectarine, the autumn pumpkin, and the winter sweet potato. Savory galettes, quiches, tarts, and pot pies are on the menu as well along with farm-fresh salads and organic teas and coffee.

  • 2010 | Best Place to Take Your Grandparents in the Mission

You know what grandparents don't care about Going to the hottest new restaurant, with the most bleeding-edge crew of mixologists and the loudest electro albums ricocheting from the speakers. (Come to think of it, we don't either.) Which is where Mission Pie comes in: There's no arguing with freshly baked pie. And no one can argue with Mission Pie's friendly business practices. Most of the young workers behind the counter have put in time at Pie Ranch, an educational and commercial venture... More »

  • 2008 | Best Pie

Finding a good slab of pie in this town has been problematic at least since Bepple's closed its doors several years ago, but the world changed for the better in January 2007 when Mission Pie opened for business. Here, marvelously buttery crusts filled with apples and pumpkin and sweet potato appear fresh from the oven and ready for the eating, gladdening hearts and pleasing stomachs as only America's greatest gift to the culinary arts can do. The apple variety is lush and sweet and touched... More »

Mission Pie was started as a student project, a collaboration between Mission High School and Pie Ranch, a non-profit educational farm down on the Central Coast. The pies are awesome, cheap, and tasty, the kids working there are super nice, and the the atmosphere is really warm and pleasant. They even have outstanding house coffee! Great for sweet or savory pies, and veggie friendly.
