Albert Einstein once defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The Houston Astros didn't yet exist when he offered up this wisdom, yet it's hard to... More »
It's a depressing time to be a fan of the Houston Astros. The team's bad. The starting pitchers have trouble getting through the first inning. The games aren't currently available to most of the viewi... More »
Everybody's pretty damn tired of the CSN Houston situation. Tired of being screwed out of Rockets games. Tired, maybe, of not being able to see the Astros get swept by the Oakland A's. Tired of watchi... More »
Well, it's official. The Houston Aeros are moving to...Iowa. I've been to Des Moines. It's a nice town. But losing our only tie to professional hockey pretty much sucks. I'm depressed. But I have to s... More »
We all know things have been pretty grim at Minute Maid Park this year. (Well, actually the past six or so seasons, to be honest.) Winning, of any sort, has been thin on the ground. Until now. Today... More »
My family used to get season tickets and occasionally let us have tickets once in awhile to go catch an Astros game back in the good old Bagwell, Biggio, Berkman days. We always had a blast and the kids loved the train when there was a home run. Right now everyone is all about the Texans, but the Astros always have a place in my heart!
Event Review: Paul McCartney
If you haven't seen him before...just know that he plays for almost three (!) hours and leaves it all on the stage. Highly recommend! This video might give you an idea: http://bit.ly/2012-paul-mccartney-houston-teaser
Just to sit in a cheap seat and get creative is enjoyable to me at an Astros game. Come up and visit me in the 400's often!
"But I hate sports!" is what you are saying right about now. You may scoff at going to Minute Park looking for single men because you don't exactly dig on baseball. But there really is nothing to being an Astros fan. Games can be as good as movies, with moments of tears, laughter, utter infatuation, crazy wardrobe changes and hilarious misunderstandings -- like when Cecil Cooper doesn't pull a pitcher out of an inning even though he's given up seven runs. There are men galore walking... More »
There's a certain kind of shock that comes when you luck into a friend's great Astros ticket and you look at the price. Fifty bucks? For a single night at the ballpark? But the truth is, you can have yourself a great night at Minute Maid Park and not put much of a dent in your pocket at all. (We do advise filling up before the game, though; some tickets are cheap, but hot dogs and drinks are another story.) There's always a slew of great offers on the team's Web site: Maybe it's buy an adult... More »
Forget about the stupid corporate name and that god-awful choo-choo train in left field. The best new stadium in Houston is the oldest new stadium in Houston: Minute Maid Park, a.k.a. the Juice Box, Home Run Field and Sponsorship Stadium. Minute Maid wins simply because it offers the best, and most interactive, fan experience in Houston: Sit in the Crawford Boxes and catch pop fly home runs. Sit in the field boxes and interfere with a ball in play. Our favorite seats are in right field on... More »
God bless that American tradition of elections -- those august times when the populace flows into frayed schoolhouse hallways or churches or even humble homes or garages to exercise their voting rights. But the downtown crowd, at least the Republicans, got a better deal on this democratic notion in the party primaries. While the lesser Democrats of the same precincts were packing into the Knights of Columbus Hall, the GOP (as in Grand Ol' Park) was granted access to the airy delights of... More »
