One of the best brew pubs in the city, the Town Hall Brewery boasts a 36-foot mahogany bar, 5 on-site-brewed beers (including West Bank Pub Ale), a whole bunch of single-malt scotches, and some first rate burgers. Two big rooms and patio seating give it an expansive, lively feel.
Visiting a bar that makes its own beer can be a dodgy affair. Though it is a noble art to brew one's own, it doesn't always work out for the best. ...

Everything about the Town Hall Brewery works. The casual atmosphere makes it a great place to have a meal or a meeting, or just hang out for a pint. It's lively but not loud; you can enjoy the buzz (pun intended) and still carry on a conversation. And the patio is great in the summer. The menu offers a wide selection of standard brewpub fare. It's nothing fancy, but it's always well prepared. The real treat is of course the beer. Mike Hoops and his brew crew keep 10 house taps going all the... More »
The brewers of Town Hall are true artists. They can take something as simple as a golden lager and infuse it with the just the right ingredients to make it a crisp, refreshing masterpiece. Town Hall keeps 10 homemade beers on tap at any given time. That includes a variety of perennials--an IPA, stout, pale ale--and an ever-changing list to fit the season. We strongly recommend the Black H20 Oatmeal Stout. True to its name, it's a dark, thick brew with subtle notes of oatmeal. It... More »
Town Hall has it all. The Minneapolis bar brews six beers year-round, in addition to a constantly rotating list of seasonal selections. So whether it be a light lager or thick stout, Town Hall has the spectrum covered. If you're a first-timer, try the sampler--a plank of sample-size glasses of each beer. For a few bucks, Town Hall will also send you home with a growler full of their delectable elixir. There's something unexplainably wonderful about drinking beer out of a big glass jug.... More »
In recent years this category has been dominated, not surprisingly, by bars featuring massive selections of beer: the Muddy Pig, William's Uptown Pub and Peanut Bar, Old Chicago. Town Hall Brewery, the eight-year-old brewpub in Minneapolis's Seven Corners area, certainly can't compete with those venerable establishments in quantitative terms. Town Hall generally offers up fewer than a dozen taps (and a couple of bottles) at any one time. But the key to appreciating this brewpub's genius is... More »
