City Pages' Description

This cheekily named meat-and-fish joint is the sophomore venture from two of the founders of the Town Talk Diner in Minneapolis, so expect a similarly playful attitude. The dark, clubby digs inside a historic Dayton's Bluff building recall St. Paul's gangster days and make it a perfect spot to sip a sidecar and take in the view of downtown. The restaurant's signature dish is a locally raised, grass-fed strip steak. Chef J.D. Fratzke, formerly of Muffuletta, sources his meat from humane purveyors--even more reason to order the impossibly flavorful braised pork shank. The menu is wide-ranging enough to include foie gras and Braunschweiger, though it doesn't offer much for vegetarians.

I love this place. It has a great view of downtown St. Paul and the chef is one of the best in MN!

This place has the best grass fed beef, local vegetables all with sustainable farming. Their fish is wonderful, too. If you want a great steak, then check this place out!

Tips from foursquare

  • City Pages on 04/18/13

Voted Best Restaurant 2013! The service is speedy, friendly, gracious, and attentive. The grass-fed steaks are perfectly cooked to order and the rotating small plates are always a delight to share.

Order the duck confit. Fall-off-the-bone tender. Like most things, best eaten with a nice glass of wine.

  • Eater on 04/23/13

Here you can find a perfectly cooked New York Strip and a small plates menu, with dishes like the Prairie Portage Poutine (french fries with sausage, gravy, wild rice, and brie).

  • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine on 03/11/11

Try the Pommes Freebase. The poutine is just cheffy enough with the addition of local Big Country cheddar in the sauce and a hit of salty, spicy chorizo on top.—Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, February 2011
