Description

City Pages' Description

What's a classic farm treat from a classic farm kid doing in the middle of the city? Pleasing city slickers with rich, gooey ice-cream mainly. See, Pumphouse creamery is the labor of love of Barb Zapzalka, who grew up as one of ten kids on a Little Falls, Minnesota farm, and decided, after a career downtown, that what the big city really needed was farm-fresh ice-cream from family-farm cows. So she opened Pumphouse, named for the first thing you'd see when you entered her family's farm, and now new generations of kids can know what it's like to have fresh ice-cream from organically raised,
Wisconsin cows. Take your little one for some rich Oatmeal-Cookie Malted Vanilla, and ask yourself: How are you going to keep them down in the city once they've tasted farm life?

Simple, Good, & Tasty says Pumphouse really works with local artisans and farmers. We love the sea salt caramel and butter pecan ice cream.

Voted Best Ice Cream Parlor by City Pages in 2010. We recommend lemon with ginger, which goes down with a clean, tart finish. The sea salt, caramel, and praline pecan is also a crowd-pleaser.

Every flavor is the best :)

Try their housemade JakeDog sodas. Two flavors on tap.

The Lemon Sorbet with Crystallized Ginger is amazing. Love their cardamom ice cream also.
