Service is the name of the game at this family-run neighborhood bistro. Joan's in the Park has the kind of service where your needs are anticipated before they even spring to your mind. As you reach for a soup spoon, it appears as if from nowhere. You take your last sip of sauvignon blanc after finishing a starter of Rhode Island calamari or crazy-creamy burrata with speck and dried tomato, and someone arrives promptly to make a suggestion about what to drink with your next course. Napkins are always fresh and folded and there is never an extra charge for any extra requests. The owners’ years of experience at Capital Grill and Morton’s shine through in oven-finished filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce and meaty hen of the woods mushrooms, but they excel equally with seafood. Case in point: the elegant corn dumplings with spicy poblano sabayon and crunchy-coated shrimp and the truly special Red Bliss potato salad with lobster.

Quaint but lacking in ambiance. Our waiter left us waiting ten minutes prior to taking our drink order. Limited entree memo. Not a restaurant for vegetarians.
