Map & Directions 10 E. Exchange St.
St. Paul, MN 55101

City Pages' Description

This legendary theater, established a century ago, stands as the oldest stage venue in Saint Paul. It's best-known as the host of A Prairie Home Companion, though its repertoire of author readings and musical concerts rounds out an edifying year-round schedule. Its capacity of just over 1,000 seats ensures an intimate but welcoming experience, and the lovingly restored and maintained decor preserves this theater's unique heritage.

The Fitzgerald Theater first opened as the Shubert in 1910. Converted into a movie theater in the 1940s, the building was purchased and rehabbed by Minnesota Public Radio in the 1980s.

If it is a sold out event, use the bathroom before intermission. 5 stalls in the women's restroom=longest bathroom line I've ever seen at a theater.
