Stations: A Los Angeles Holiday Story

In this modern dance narrative Stations, director Lili Fuller offers us a holly jolly, hip-hoppy Christmas. And one thing's for sure: Your granny's creaky Nutcracker this ain't. Told entirely through balletic jazz, accompanied by Parmer Fuller's j... More »

Event Review: Stations: A Los Angeles Holiday Story

    | Tue, December 20, 2011

I see a lot of stage shows and this has got to be one of the coolest original plays I've been to in a while. Unlike many shows that are entertaining enough, this show left us totally absorbed in the story. A guy sitting in our row started tearing up during the sad part. But this is not a downer show. With the music and dance, it's really real and uplifting. I liked how they have it all around LA -- places where I go -- the Grove, Venice beach, 3rd St. Promenade. My girlfriend thought one of the lead actors was really cute, but I noticed him and the others because they could MOVE! And I want to say the box office lady was so nice in taking care of a mix up in tickets. I'm going try to go again, and this time, bring my out of town friends.

Event Review: Stations: A Los Angeles Holiday Story

What talent! An holiday musical done in mime - and it works! The acting is excellent, the music beautiful and the dancing is so expressive. There are moments of absolute brilliance when the music, dancing and mime all come together to create that magical place that good theatre can take us to. There are other moments, when I could not quite follow the story, but still enjoyed the music and dancing. It helps to read the program first to have a clear picture of the story line. I will try to go again because it is worth seeing twice.

Event Review: Stations: A Los Angeles Holiday Story

    | Sun, December 18, 2011

How can a soundtrack be the hippest thing you have heard in years, move you to tears, and celebrate the diversity, joys and sadness of the Holidays all at one moment? This is a new Holiday classic. There are so many different body types, ethnicities, girths and heights, and yet the choreography has a consistency of form, energy, and style that is astonishing. Now lets talk about the sound and music. Sen-f…king-sational! The radio station idea works beautifully with the sounds and very diverse and truly beautiful music. Wow! The tonality and light-handed treatment of the Nativity was perfect. We were crying all during the last act. An emotional roller coaster that re-creates the theatrical, loving and heart-rending experience of the holiday season in a uniquely LA way! -- Kent Gibson
