You wouldn't expect an unassuming, squat building on the commercial Hampton strip to be the flashiest bar in St. Louis, but it is. With dozens of sparkling disco balls, mirrored walls and a glitter-inlaid bar top, it's like the lovechild of a strip club and a disco roller rink, but one where karaoke is king. There's a feeling that what happens in this sparkling paradise stays here. The drinks aren't cheap, but the mixed ones are so strong that just one or two will have you crooning "I Want to Know What Love Is" in no time.

After last call at the local 1:30 a.m. watering hole, even the most self-conscious crooner will be ready to belt out a few bars at Mike Talayna's, where karaoke goes on seven days a week until the wee hours of the morning. Talayna's has all the charm of an east-side strip joint, with mirrors... More »
There are bars that offer karaoke, and then there are karaoke bars -- the kind of place where it's always amateur night, where you too can be the star for three minutes at a time. Mike Talayna's Juke Box Restaurant is that kind of place, where the karaoke flows until 3 a.m. every night and the bar is peopled with would-be crooners and wannabe divas. Talayna's does serve food, but you came to sing and to be serenaded, not chomp on pizza and wings -- music, after all, is the food of... More »
Talayna's karaoke night is not for everyone. In fact, come to think of it, karaoke in general may only be for the severely intoxicated. Talayna's greatness owes not to its song roster, which includes far fewer New Order selections (one) than some might prefer. (Ahem.) It's not due to the clientele -- your basic assortment of grungy regulars and crewcut balladeers. It's not even due to the availability of pizza. No, we honor Talayna's karaoke night for the cheap beer, the very supportive... More »
