This Maplewood institution is both a Greek restaurant and a neighborhood bar & grill. Sit in the bar and munch on T-ravs or the excellent hot wings - crisp-skinned and plenty spicy - while you watch the Cards or Rams, or take a table on one of the two levels and enjoy braised lamb shank over bucatini pasta. (It's like extra-thick spaghetti that has had a hole threaded through the middle.) Michael's burger is one of the area's best: thick, juicy and full of beefy flavor.

great atmosphere!
Michael's has the best greek salad I've ever had. And their Tzazikti (spelling?!) dip is amazing.
Question: What makes for truly fantastic bar food? Answer: A good deep fryer. By that measure, the fryer at Michael's Bar & Grill must be gold plated, a filligreed affair replete with ivory inlays, encrusted with precious gems and signed by its creator. Because this "fryer" -- if indeed we can still call it that -- produces delicacies of such golden-hued perfection, structurally sound morsels whose insides are lusciously moist and bursting with flavor, that anything shy of a... Bar food is on the wane in many St. Louis establishments, poorly represented on both ends of the spectrum by kitchens that either drizzle white-cream-and-truffle sauces or rely on frozen substitutes bought in bulk at Sam's Club. But at Michael's Bar and Grill, the bar food is still battered by hand and deep-fried with loving kindness.
