Miami New Times' Description

Miami can get a little claustrophobic. But when that boxed in feeling strikes, we're lucky to have lots of wilderness right around the corner in the way of the Everglades. Just a short drive away, this natural paradise is all you need to reconnect with Mother Nature. And at Shark Valley, you can spend plenty of time with your muse. There's a 15-mile paved loop perfect for strolling or bike riding -- along with several more rustic side trails along the way. At the end is a tower. Make your way up and its greenery as far as the eye can see. A nice respite from Miami's urban madness.

Decades in Miami area and I finally went to Shark Valley Visitors Center. It was so much fun just a great way to spend the day. There are so many alligators and you get so close. Great day for locals

Take an Air Boat ride to get really close to nature (alligators are an arms length away)

Get the yearly pass if you live in Miami. It works in all the Everglades parks.

A great way to see the Everglades in an environmentally friendly way. Not crowded in early June. Ranger was a great guide and we saw lots of gators, birds and turtles. No mosquitos at all!

    Go early no parking!
