Miami New Times' Description

Named after a rare tropical citrus fruit, the restaurant is elegant in an islandy kind of way. Some of the signature dishes from the creative Caribbean palette include pumpkin bisque with pepper sherry sauce, jerk chicken penne, conch fritters, snapper escovitche, and grilled tuna with papaya and mango salad. Also try a broiled mozzarella salad, plus some fantastic seafood like mussels in a coconut curry broth, red snapper ceviche, and spicy calamari salad. Portions are large, so two appetizers can be had as a meal, or an entrée can be happily shared. Those with room for dessert are richly rewarded with creations from the ordinary (rum cake) to the outrageous (drunken banana fritters).

Service was horrible and food was blah. Only thing I can say was worth the trip was dessert. Never going back!

When Orson Welles described style as being "unique for yourself yet identifiable to others," he could have been talking about Ortanique. Chef Cindy Hutson's Caribbean-based "cuisine of the sun" is bright enough to delight in a coal mine, but achieves optimum taste when in harmony with the warm and vivid sunset colors, flowing gauze curtains, mahogany woods, and hand-painted... I love this restaurant & well worth the price. Just thinking about their food makes me drool. I always make it a point to stop during Miami Spice, but half the time I end up ordering off the menu. Recommend having the Rum Zacapa (23 yrs) at the bar for a starter.

Ortanique's seamless blend of Latin, Caribbean and Asian cuisines translates into an exceptional culinary experience. Boozehounds praise the restaurant's mojito making skills, too. [Eater 38 Member]

Head to the bar and have Joel (great bartender) make you a "Sagatiba Island Passion". Great cocktail made with passion fruit.

  • USA TODAY on 11/22/10

Diners line up here for jerk penne pasta and fried-calamari salad. It has an island's flavor, great food and great atmosphere.

  • The Feast on 06/06/11

Definitely one of the best mojitos in town. Delicious fusion dishes include the baked brie, jerked chicken pasta and fish dressed up in tropical sauces. For dessert, don't skip the banana fritters.

Voted best mojito after Miami's first mojito march!
